INTERPRETATION OF THE ETHNIC THEME IN THE CHORAL WORKS OF PĒTERIS VASKS (THROUGH THE EXAMPLE OF MATE SAULE AND ZĪLES ZIŅA)

В творчестве ведущего современного автора Петериса Васкса хоровая музыка занимает важное место. В своих сочинениях для хора композитор соединил национальные традиции и возможности современных композиторских техник, в первую очередь, сонорики и алеаторики. Этот союз ярче всего представлен в сочинениях 1970-х – начала 1980-х. Два из них – «Mate saule» на стихи Яниса Петерса и «Zīles ziņa» на стихи Улдиса Берзиньша – анализируются в статье с позиций воплощения национальной темы, значимой для композитора. В процессе анализа показаны принципы работы с поэтическим текстом, выделены композиционные и драматургические особенности каждого хора, обозначены особенности тематизма и приёмов работы с ним, охарактеризована трактовка сонорных и алеаторных приёмов. Соотнесение основных мотивов стиха и комплекса музыкально-выразительных средств, используемых в каждом хоре, позволило сделать вывод, что национальная тема трактуется по-разному – в идиллическом («Māte saule») и в драматическом («Zīles ziņa») ключе. Choral music is an integral part of the works of the leading contemporary composer Pēteris Vasks. In his choral compositions he combined the national traditions and resources of the modern composing techniques, most particularly, sonorism and aleatoric music. This union is most accurately represented in the compositions of the 1970s-early 1980s. The article studies two of those – Mate saule to a poem by Jānis Peters and Zīles ziņa to a poem by Uldis Bērziņš – with regard to the implementation of the ethnic theme crucial to the composer. The analysis presents the approach to work with a poetic text, highlights the compositional and dramaturgic aspects of each choir, specifies the aspects of thematic material and methods of work with thereof, and defines the interpretation of sonorant and aleatoric techniques. The matching of the main motifs of a poem and a set of musical and expressive means used in each choir allowed to conclude that the ethnic theme is interpreted in various ways – in an idyllic (Māte saule) and a dramatic (Zīles ziņa) sense.
