Abstract
Born of Welsh noble lineage in Powys ca. 1359, Owain was a warrior and one of Europe's great guerilla leaders who, briefly, overthrew English rule in Wales. Although lauded by bards and poets as Wales's savior from occupation, Owain displayed no early appetite for revolt. He studied law at the Inns of Court in London and fought under English colors, twice in Scotland and finally in Flanders in 1387 under the earl of Arundel. Owain then sought quiet retirement in Powys.
