The final chapter of the book marshals the upshot of what has come before, considering the ramifications of voluntarism about stances for how different agents should think about scientific ontology more generally. The potentially melancholy conclusion that philosophical analysis is powerless to resolve important debates concerning ontology is resisted, in favor of a more inspiring picture of the genuine insight that comes from understanding the true nature of ontological pursuits. This helps to separate questions regarding which illumination is possible from others, which amount to pseudo-problems, admitting of no genuine illumination after all. Invoking themes of Pyrrhonian skepticism regarding the peace of mind that may accompany such revelations, voluntarism about scientific ontology is presented as a transformative epistemology.
