Harris, Zellig

Zellig Harris (1909–1992) was an important intermediary figure in the study of language in the mid‐twentieth century, straddling both the transition from “structuralism” to “linguistic anthropology” in anthropology, and “structuralism” to “transformational grammar” in autonomous linguistics. He later made important contributions to information theory and computational linguistics.
