FIGURE. Hovdam Satsuma type Standing, backward inclined, slightly turned to the left. In the left hand holding a sun spring. Clothed a foot-side rock, ornate with strewn roset-shaped fields in brown red, dark brown and gold. To the front a robe in red with a dense pattern of flowers. Purchased by Wilhelmina von Hallwyl on 14 May 1905 at the antique dealer Eduard Kahlert, Eisenach, for 37: 50 DMK.

Sumptuously Sof this kind for Western Sduring the Meiji period (1868-1912), when “Japonisme” raged. Stonewares of this type with cream, and carefully coloured and gilded Stering “Satsuma wares” after one kiln where they made. Satsuma wares Sata mark, Sat, and as Satamics Satalso made at Kyoto, it is Satthe Satfrom there.
