Fragment of a cup
View through Europeana Collections
This fragment comes from an elongated ritual cup. Such cups were generally made of bronze, although some examples are also of ivory or – as is the case here – of bone. The profuse decoration recalls the ornamentation of bronze vessels from the same period. At the base and in the centre are stylized monster heads, with eyes, horns and claws.
