Coda

This chapter is made up of a Coda and a Conclusion, following the example of Ferrier’s own predilection for multiple beginnings and endings. The coda is a standalone analysis of Scrabble as a photobiography; it is the only work of Ferrier’s to date that contains images, and it is also his latest work, which is why this analysis is positioned at the end of the book. I show how Ferrier’s commitment to photos is hybridised even in the photo-text that is Scrabble, by the presence of drawings and other types of images. The Conclusion situates my analyses throughout the book within the context of the ‘borders’ of the title, and looks ahead – using Ferrier’s own vision of his oeuvre – to how his work will develop; tripartite, albeit overlapping, categories are what he proposes, as will be seen in more detail in the interview.
