Isabella Clara Eugenia (1566 - 1633) was the first-born of King Philip II of Spain's marriage to Princess Elizabeth of Valois. The Infanta was married to Archduke Albert VII of Austria in 1599 and was governor of the Spanish Netherlands.\nThe portrait shows her in this political function; it was made after portrait paintings by Peter Paul Rubens, which are preserved today in the National Gallery, London as well as in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.
