An Analysis of Morphological Errors in Arabic Thesis Abstracts at a University Level

Abstract:This study aims to identify morphological mistakes found in the abstracts of students' theses at the Arabic Language Education Study Program, Kediri State Islamic Institute. To further describe the morphological units that are most often found to be wrong in the abstracts, so that appropriate efforts or strategies can be formulated to overcome morphological and syntactic problems in writing students' final assignments at the Arabic Language Education Study Program, IAIN Kediri. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a content approach to language mistakes. The abstract objects studied were 3 abstracts from graduates of the 2023-2024 batch and were selected randomly. The abstract text was used as the primary source of the study, while other secondary sources included articles and books related to morphology in Arabic. The stages of language mistake analysis follow the following steps: (1) collecting data, (2) identifying errors, (3) explaining mistakes, (4) evaluating errors. The collected data were analyzed using qualitative analysis. The results of the study showed that there were several Arabic morphological mistakes (shorof) in the abstracts of the theses of students of the Arabic Language Education Study Program. These morphological errors include 4 aspects, namely: (1) errors in writing words, (2) errors in choosing wazan, (3) errors in writing the letter hamzah, both hamzah washl, or qoth and layyinah, (4) errors in placing dhamir.Keywords: Morphology, Abstract, Arabic  Abstrak:Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kesalahan morfologi yang terdapat pada abstrak skripsi mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Arab Institut Agama Islam Negeri Kediri. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan isi kesalahan berbahasa. Objek abstrak yang diteliti adalah 3 abstrak lulusan angkatan 2023-2024 dan dipilih secara acak. Teks abstrak digunakan sebagai sumber primer penelitian, sedangkan sumber sekunder lainnya berupa artikel dan buku-buku yang terkait dengan morfologi bahasa Arab. Tahapan analisis kesalahan berbahasa mengikuti langkah-langkah berikut: (1) pengumpulan data, (2) identifikasi kesalahan, (3) penjelasan kesalahan, (4) evaluasi kesalahan. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis menggunakan analisis kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat beberapa kesalahan morfologi bahasa Arab (shorof) pada abstrak skripsi mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Arab.
