CINDERELLA REVISITED

The paper examines how Cinderella’s story was turned into a postmodern comic rendering in the 2021 film version. The comic reinterpretation of this classic fairy tale fundamentally changed the protagonist while also affecting the entire arch of the narrative. Due to this comic approach, Cinderella got transformed into an independent woman with agency standing up for herself while refusing to be victimized. It is argued that the rather unfavorable reception of the film might greatly be due to this comic take as viewers are typically accustomed to the traditional concept that Cinderella is a victim and that we are supposed to feel sorry for her. This film is a radical departure from the customary approach to the Cinderella story since through humor not only Cinderella but the other female characters are also given agency and power.
