Som pensioneret musikterapeut overværede Synnøve Friis i juni 2003 forsvaret af den første ph.d.-afhandling indenfor musikterapi med demensramte. Afhandlingen “Singing Dialogue. Music Therapy with persons in advanced stages of dementia. A case study research design” er skrevet af Hanne Mette Ridder (2003).
