Som pensioneret musikterapeut overværede Synnøve Friis i juni 2003 forsvaret af den første ph.d.-afhandling indenfor musikterapi med demensramte. Afhandlingen “Singing Dialogue. Music Therapy with persons in advanced stages of dementia. A case study research design” er skrevet af Hanne Mette Ridder (2003). Vi har valgt at lade Synnøve Friis selv få ordet, ved at bringe den tale hun holdt ved den efterfølgende middag.
