‘The gift of changing’: Cope’s Poems for Children

This chapter considers Cope’s poetry for children. It begins with a consideration of her pedagogical impulses and her work written to be read to young children in schools, and ends with consideration of her long poem The River Girl (Faber 1991). The chapter also considers some of her uncollected children’s poems. It provides close readings of key poems and sections of The River Girl.
