'Rosary'

View through Europeana Collections
Necklace made of black, twisted, fishing yarn. At about 10 cm from the bottom, the two strands are knotted together. In three knots thick, black pins are inserted. Thin red threads are knotted to the middle pin. In the part of the necklace that falls on the chest there are also knots, through which black pins have been stuck in different directions. These pins are smaller than the three pins at the bottom. \A rosary is a prayer chain used in the Catholic Church. The rosary consists of 5 large and 50 small beads and is used for the rosary prayer. This prayer consists of praying the Our Father (15 times) and the Hail Mary (150 times) by going through the rosary three times. During this prayer, the life and suffering of Jesus is contemplated, as well as the resurrection.‖ In this ornament, the black color and the pointed pins, which make the cord unwearable and unusable, further emphasize the suffering.
