In June 2013, a trial excavation was conducted at the site of Sha'ar Ha-'Amaqim (Permit No. A-6831; map ref. 210079-194/736509-795), prior to further construction of Highway 6. The excavation, undertaken on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority and financed by the Cross-Israel Highway Company, Ltd., was directed by D. Kirzner (photography), with the assistance of Y. Amrani and A. Lavan (administration), R. Mishayev and M. Kahan (surveying and drafting), A. Dagot (GPS), A. Gorzalczany (scientific guidance), A. Sa'id (preliminary inspections), as well as C. Sa'id and L. Talmi.
