THE POTENTIAL FOR DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGIES TO MITIGATE AND ADAPT TO CLIMATE CHANGE

Climate change poses an immediate global threat, requiring aggressive mitigation and adaptation of unavoidable impacts to curb emissions. Traditional climate policies offer a partial solution, but disruptive technologies can offer a transitional solution by enabling deeper decarbonisation and increased energy efficiency enabling them to cope. This paper explores the potential of disruptive technologies to address climate change through a comprehensive and integrated literature review, defined as innovations that dramatically change policy. It provides an overview of key concerns such as renewable energy, electric vehicles, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things. The importance of timely mitigation to avoid climate reversals and adaptation to respond to increasing climate risks is emphasised. The role of disruptive technologies in enabling greenhouse gas reductions across sectors of the economy and contributing to changes in industry, agriculture and disaster management is analysed Shown as carbon reduction scale, improved efficiency, flexibility and economic growth potential of disruptive technologies as key advantages Recommendations are made for policymakers to encourage disruptive technologies through improved market regulation, by enhancing research and development, removing barriers, and facilitating correct change. Implementing disruptive technologies, combined with aggressive climate policies, offers hope for tackling catastrophic climate change through deep decarbonization and resilience building Technical resources another radical one can transform climate action, but it requires the support of purposeful policy and conditions that enable it
