Stylistic Errors in Translation
View through CrossRef
The article describes the significance and status of stylistic errors in the context of general classification of translation errors. The author stresses that this issue has been studied in the works of Russian and foreign linguists. The topicality of the study is determined by the absence of a unified classification of stylistic errors in translation, discrepancies in the classification names of these types of errors and the principles of their selection. The author attempts to systematize the types of errors on the basis of student translations of German scientific and newspaper texts. The classification of stylistic errors is based on violations of the functional and stylistic norms of the target language, distortion of the expressive background of the original and the author's assessment, violation of its norms and usage. The analysis of the material is supported by a linguo-stylistic commentary, which reveals the essence of the stylistic differences between the original text and its translation. It is stated that a significant part of stylistic errors in translation is associated with a violation of the stylistic norms of the Russian language.
