A Study on the Practice of Village Ministry in the Adventist Church
View through CrossRef
Village ministry is a new pastoral paradigm that applies the missionary ecclesiology developed in the Western world in a Korean way. In the Protestant world today, village pastoralism is attracting great attention as a pastoral paradigm of the times that transcends denominations. Various institutions are being established to research and support village ministry, and related studies and practice cases are constantly being produced. The Seventh-day Adventist Church is also seeking ways to overcome the existential crisis we are facing today through missionary ecclesiology. In this situation, the village ministry, which developed missional ecclesiology according to the soil of the Korean church, is a good model for the Adventist Church. However, in order to apply the village ministry developed on the theological basis of the general Protestant world to the Adventist Church, which has a message, culture, and administrative organization differentiated from them, it is necessary to review the Adventist application plan of the village ministry. This article is a study to find a way to practice Adventist village ministry based on the analysis of the historical background of village ministry, the literal concept of village ministry, and the practical tasks of village ministry. This paper analyzes the historical background of village ministry to explain why the Adventist Church should do village ministry, analyzes the literal concept of village ministry, proposes to redefine the Adventist village ministry, and analyzes the practical tasks of village ministry. Through this, we are suggesting solutions for the practice of Adventist village ministry.
