Bringing Africa to the Americas: The Creolizing of Afro-Caribbean Philosophy
View through CrossRef
This chapter defends Paget Henry’s treatment of traditional African philosophy as an important resource for the development of Afro-Caribbean philosophy in his book, Caliban’s Reason: Introducing Afro-Caribbean Philosophy. The chapter raises and addresses the potential objection that Henry’s position relies on racial essentialism. Finally, Henry’s principle is extended beyond Afro-Caribbean philosophy to Africana philosophy in the Americas more generally.
