Mayo Clinic Gastrointestinal Imaging Review

Abstract The purpose of this third edition is to update and supplement the second edition of Mayo Clinic Gastrointestinal Imaging Review. The goal of the book is to provide a learning resource of abnormalities of the gastrointestinal tract that can be diagnosed with imaging examinations. Emphasis is placed on images large enough to reliably identify an abnormality, with a description of the findings, differential diagnosis and diagnosis using minimal text. Students should attempt to solve each case before reading the text explanation. Only a few select pediatric cases are included, and the reader is referred to pediatric textbooks for a more comprehensive review. This book is directed at both the beginning radiologic learner with the addition of chapter 1, describing key principles of gastrointestinal image interpretation and nomenclature. Trainees preparing for finishing examinations will also benefit from this book. In addition to comprehensive content related to each portion of the gastrointestinal tract, multiple choice questions complete each section—acting as a guide to mastery and knowledge gap identification. The last chapter in the book has been expanded to a 60 question final examination that could serve as a check point for finishing examination readiness. Many of the cases have been replaced and updated from the second edition. Numerous summary tables and illustrations that synthesize concepts for each chapter remain. The format remains unchanged so that the student can consider each case as an unknown, and then augment their knowledge base by reading the attached text.
