Directive Illocutionary Acts in the Movie entitled Beauty and the Beast 2017

This thesis is entitled Directive Illocutionary Acts in the Movie Entitled Beauty and the Beast 2017. The aims of this study are to find out what types of directive illocutionary acts are found and analyze the context of the situations that support the directive illocutionary acts in the movie entitled Beauty and the Beast 2017. The data were taken from the movie entitled Beauty and the Beast 2017. The data were collected using library research method and documentation technique, and then they were analyzed using the descriptive qualitative method. There are some theories used to answer this study’s problems. There are two theories such as; first, the theory of the directive illocutionary acts proposed by Bach and Harnish (1979) to solve the first problem, and second, and the theory of the context of situation proposed by Halliday (1989) to answer the second problem. The study showed that there are 6 types of directive illocutionary acts, such as; requestives , questions , requirements , prohibits , permissive , and advisory. The type of the directive illocutionary acts has the context of situation, such as; field of situation, tenor of the situation, and mode of the situation.
