Quality of Writing in EFL University Students' Descriptive Essays

Writing, as a productive skill, is multidimensional. When EFL students have qualified written language, they will be able to convey their ideas and express themselves effectively. The quality of writing: complexity, accuracy and fluency play a significant role in the language of EFL students. It promotes their different linguistic knowledge which enriches the foreign language learning process. The present study aims at identifying and comparing:1. The quality of writing the descriptive composition for EFL university students at the colleges of education in the two universities: Tikrit and Samarra.2. The quality of writing descriptive composition in the light of the three principal dimensions:A. Complexity, B. Accuracy, C. Fluency.The participants are 185 undergraduate EFL students, in the third year English Departments, Colleges of Education, Universities of Tikrit, and Samarra. The study is conducted during the second semester of the academic year 2021-2022. The data have been gathered by using a diagnostic test to assess students’ quality of writing: complexity, accuracy and fluency in writing descriptive essays. The results of the study reveal that EFL university students have a low quality of writing.
