CORRELATION OF DRYNESS OF EYES WITH MIGRAINE IN YOUNG INDIVIDUALS
View through CrossRef
Background: Dry eye disease and migraine are disorders affecting most of the general population currently. Many people who have migraine appear to show the symptoms of dry eye. The interconnection between dry eye syndrome and migraine has been illustrated by some studies, but few have estimated the frequency of dry eye in migraine patients. We aimed to find the frequency of dry eye syndrome in migraine patients.
Objective: The objective of this study is to evaluate the correlation of dryness of eyes with migraine in young individuals.
Method: This descriptive cross-sectional study includes 217 clinically diagnosed migraine patients between the age range of 18 to 29. DED disease was assessed using the dry eye symptoms questionnaire and Schirmer test 1. P-value 0.05 was considered as significant.
Results: Out of 217 migrainoid patient, 38.2% participants had normal eye. Among the rest, 17.1% showed Mild, 2.3% Moderate dry eye. Schirmer Test significantly showed that 41.9% had been suffering from severe dry eye with P-value 0.021. Overall, the study showed that 96 patients (44%) suffered from dry eye.
Conclusion: The study concluded by showing the significantly correlated with dryness of eyes disease among migraine patients. Patients suffering from migraine should also undergo dry eye assessment for a better prognosis.
