Challenges of social work practice in Port Harcourt children’s home in Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State

This study explored the challenges of social work practice in Port Harcourt children’s home in Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State. The study employed the descriptive survey design, and the accessible population of the study comprises of all Two Hundred and Eight (208) care givers in the eighteen (18) children home in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The sample of the study is fifty (50) care givers in Port Harcourt children home. Data was derived for the study using a self-structured questionnaire. The data collected from the respondents were properly organized in tables, coded and analysed. The research adopted descriptive statistics such as percentages, mean and standard the simple percentage for the data analysis. Findings revealed that social workers in Port Harcourt children's homes face significant challenges that impact their effectiveness and well-being. The findings also revealed a grand mean of 3.27, indicating strong agreement that the identified challenges have substantial negative effects. The study further recommended that the government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and private donors should allocate more funds to children's homes to improve facilities, provide essential materials, and support staff welfare amonsgt others.
