Field and laboratory evaluation of some insecticides for the management of cotton jassid

The cotton variety CB14 was cultivated in the experimental plots and the effect of the insecticides, namely Actos 1.8EC, Asatap 75SP, Tundra 20SP, Talstar 2.5EC, Confidor 70WG, Spike 25WG, Siren 25.9%EC, Ripcord 10EC, and Panel 50SC in comparison to untreated plots were evaluated for jassid (Amrasca devastans) inhibition. Among the insecticides, Panel 50SC treated plots exhibited the highest plant height (123.0 +- 0.8cm), number of branches (13.5 +- 0.4a), number of leaves (66.4 +- 0.4a), sympodia (9.4 +- 0.2a), plant weight (281.5 +- 1.0 g), boll weight (14.0 +- 0.3 g) along with diameter (3.8 +- 0.3 cm) and length (5.8+-0.0 cm) of the bolls, GOT (36.2+-0.3), lint index (8.0+-0.3) values. Panel 50SC revealed the lowest abundance of jassid, at 1, 3, and 7 days after treatments were 0.6+-0.7, 1.0+-0.5 and 1.6+-0.4 per shoot, respectively. The laboratory-based mortality test revealed that after 24, 48 and 72 hours, Panel 50SC had the highest mortality rates (23.3 +- 1.6%, 46.6 +- 4.4% and 60.0 +- 5.0%, for each case). The study showed the highest yield under Panel 50SC (1.4 +-0.9 t/ha) followed by Confidor 70WG (1.2 +- 0.7 t/ha), Spike 25Wg (1.2 +- 0.4 t/ha) and Actos 1.8EC (0.9 +- 0.7 t/ha).
