From Nationalencyclopedia, NE.se: Marcus Larson
Larson (also Larsson), Marcus, 1825 - 1864, painter. After studies at the Swedish Academy of Fine Arts, he began to perform naval paintings, with the academic colleague Kilian Zoll, where Larson stood for the sea and the ships while Zoll carried out the human race. Marcus Larson’s interest in dramatic sea depictions gained increased nutrition during studies for Achenbach in Düsseldorf in 1852 - 1855 and subsequently in Paris. For his coastal landscapes, he often used photographs of rock blocks and marpines as models for picturesque details. In 1856 one of the Swedish landscape paintings was added in Paris, Vattenfall in Småland (Nationalmuseum). The last hectic years of his life, he performed a series of virtuoso dramatic sea pictures, often with burning ships as motifs.
