В статье продемонстрированы путь формирования направления опухолей головы и шеи, объединение групп новообразований и появление новой специальности по лечению опухолей головы и шеи.
Данное направление имеет свои истоки еще в 1928–1939 гг., когда большое внимание онкологов уделялось изучению опухолей на клеточном уровне и проводились опыты по прививанию опухолей животным. Статья посвящена памяти учителя и родоначальника данного объединенного направления в НИИ онкологии им. Н.Н. Петрова Роберта Ивановича Вагнера.
