Jhr.dr. Cornelis Beelaerts van Blokland (1873-1948), zoon van gezant van de Zuid-Afrikaans-che Republiek Jhr.mr. G.J.Th. Beelaerts van Blokland, ging 1884-1886 school in Pretoria en werkte er 1896-1897. Hij was bevriend met het gezin Van Warmelo. Hij onderhield brief-wisseling met zowel dochter Johanna van Warmelo als haar moeder Marie van Warmelo-Maré. Johanna is bekend als dagboekschrijfster, haar brieven geven daarop interessante aanvullingen en leggen andere klemtonen. Minstens zo interessante zijn de brieven van haar moeder, met name over hun sociale en psychische na-oorlogse traumata. De brieven zijn onlangs ontdekt in het archief van Beelaerts van Blokland.
