Características Epidemiológicas da Levedura Emergente Candida auris
View through CrossRef

Abstract
Fungal infections are increasingly recognized as a global threat to human health. The Candida species, known as Candida auris, has gained great prominence among the others, as it is potentially pathogenic, as it has multi-resistance and can easily persist in hospital environments. Thus, the objective was to investigate in the literature the epidemiological characteristics of the emerging yeast C. auris. This is an integrative literature review, carried out in the databases: PubMed, SciELO and Google Scholar, using the descriptors: Candida auris, Epidemiology “Epidemiology”, Treatment “Treatment”, combined by the Boolean operator “AND”. Studies published in 2020, in Portuguese or English, were selected. According to the data collected, C. auris affects adults and children with a variety of risk factors, such as central venous catheters and excessive use of antimicrobials, presenting itself as a fungus with high horizontal transmission power and high resistance rate to antifungals, being necessary the combination of two or more drugs for the treatment of candidemias. In addition, these infections are responsible for a 30-day mortality rate of 39.5%. Therefore, it is essential that more demanding surveillance, control and notification measures are applied so that new cases of C. auris infection are correctly treated in order to minimize transmission and avoid epidemic outbreaks, especially in hospital environments.
