10 Kr, 10, 1, Sweden has a long tradition in polar research, as early as the 1700s Carl von Linné travelled in Lapland. Today has
Sweden a prominent role internationally with prominent scientists and advanced infrastructure for
polar research. Swedish scientists are active in both fields of science and science
humanities and social sciences, both Arctic and Antarctica. Since man began to travel to the polar regions, artists have been involved as participants in expeditions, in
the beginning to work with illustration and documentation so that it could be shown at home what
the expedition experienced. The Polar Research Secretariat continues this tradition by making room for
artists in Swedish research expeditions.
The block draws attention to two research projects with Swedish participation: the Neutrinotelescope AMANDA and the Exploration of the Arctic Ocean.
