Falling Short

This chapter discusses the recriminations made following the first National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship. It starts with Bob Kane's belief that Cornell would climb to the top of the college lacrosse world. In Baltimore, Army and Navy met in what had been the jewel of the lacrosse season. Army and Navy announced their decision to allow freshmen to play varsity lacrosse, while on the other hand, forbidding freshmen from playing varsity became a problem for Cornell. The chapter then covers the plastic lacrosse stick heads made by STX and produced by William T. Burnett plastics factory that were met with skepticism from people who adored the traditional wooden lacrosse sticks. It gives an overview of the game between Cortland State and Cornell despite their cultural differences and multiple match cancellations.
