Abstract
The earliest account of Agostino Agazzari’s career can be found in a miscellany of’diverse facts about Siena’ compiled by the Sienese priest Filippo Montebuoni-Buondelmonti during the papacy of Urban VIII (1623-44). The manuscript includes musicians’ biographies, most penned with such concision that gaps are inevitable: ‘1633: Agostino Agazzari. An excellent organist and an outstanding composer, whose published works number [lacuna].
