The Ideologeme of the Revolution of 1821 in the Social and Political Life of Greece
View through CrossRef
The chapter traces the process of transformation of the Greek Revolution of 1821 (Greek War of Independence) into an ideologeme and examines it’s use by various political forces and state-political regimes over the course of two centuries of the history of modern Greek statehood. The transformation of the Revolution of 1821 into an ideologeme began already during the period of the revolution itself. In the future, it was heroized and mythologized. Subsequently, it was included into the complex of ideas about Greek national identity. At different historical stages, various political forces used this ideologeme as a symbol of the struggle not only for national, but also for political freedom.
