The Symbolic Meaning of Colors in the Costumes and Artifacts of Jaran Kepang Temanggung, Indonesia

Jaran Kepang is one of the characteristics of Indonesian arts and culture. The main focus that is interesting to know is about the symbolic colors in the Jaran Kepang costumes and artifacts. The aim of this study is to describe how to interpret the denotative and connotative meanings of these colors, and how the meanings of the values of these colors are analyzed using Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. This research uses a qualitative interpretative approach. The results of this study indicate that interpretatively, denotative and connotative meaning values were found in the colors of the costumes and artifacts of Jaran Kepang Temanggung, Indonesia.
