Our experience in treating patients with Coats disease
View through CrossRef
We observed 7 boys with Coats disease, all with unilateral lesions. The age of disease
manifestation ranged from 3 to 15 years, the observation period ranged from 3 to 16 years.
Stages with favorable outcomes (2a-3a1) were observed in 4 children (visual acuity at the
disease outcome was 0.04–1.0). In 3 children, Coats disease progressed to the terminal
stage. The main treatment method was laser coagulation of the retina, which was performed
in 2–4 stages. Additional laser coagulation was required in 3 patients 6, 7 and 9 years after
achieving remission.
The outcome of Coats disease depends on early diagnosis and timely treatment, which
allows achieving anatomical and good functional results.
Keywords: Coats disease, telangiectasia, subretinal exudate, laser coagulation of the retina.
