Square shawl of woven wool and silk, probably made in Paisley, Scotland, ca. 1845. Square shawl of woven wool and silk. White ground with a close twill of woollen weft on a silk warp. With an all-over pattern of detached sprigs and an applied white silk fringe. Around the edges are small slanted cones of tiny florets in green, grey-brown, pink-red, white and golden yellow alternating with a sprays of flowers. The spray is differently shaped at the corners. The yellow is silk and the other pattern wefts are in wool. Across the shawl are repeated an angular spray of flowers including a small cone alternating with four sprigs in two different colourways.  Woven wool and silk.
