Objectives: Scarlet fever is characterized by a high degree of contagion and risk of severe complications. The aim of the study was to highlight the need for the constant application of prophylactic measures when a case of scarlet fever is detected. Material and method: a retrospective study, to evaluate some epidemiological aspects of scarlet fever cases in children hospitalized in the Clinical Hospital for Infectious Diseases in Brasov during 2014-2019. Results: 1366 children were hospitalized, with annual variations in the number of cases; 95.32% of patients were between 1-9 years old. In the period 2014-2016 hospitalizations were more frequent in the age group 5-9 years, in the next 3 years in the age group 1-4 years; 54.17% were boys, 78.11% came from urban areas. Most hospitalizations were found in March, April, and December (13.98%, 15.37%, 13.91% cases). Conclusions: Persistent scarlet fever morbidity requires early diagnosis, isolation of disease cases, and constant application of prophylaxis of streptococcal infection to all their contacts.
