Frente a las catástrofes de la Historia y a los exilios a los que estamos sometidos, Manea pregunta con agudeza e ironía cómo podemos definirnos en un mundo de espejos cambiantes. La vieja Europa y el Nuevo Mundo se entrelazan en la obra de Manea para servir de escenario a sus peregrinaciones, con un acusado sentido del humor, muchas veces negro. Norman Manea, en su obra, busca hacer un acercamiento lúcido para mostrar que aún en el sufrimiento, pervive la humanidad y la esperanza.
