Abstract
The Shelley party returned to Rome on 5 March 1819 and instantly felt a lift in their spirits. Claire, taking up her journal again, recorded the delightful weather and sights. ‘Walk in the public gardens-Go to the Fontana di Trevis and to the Pantheon now called La Rotunda–Walk with Shelley to the Capitol, to the Forum & the Coliseum–A beautiful & mild Spring Evening.’ Later that evening she revisited the Pantheon, and saw it by moonlight in the mild, milky weather.
