Communication Interventions with Deaf People

View through CrossRef
Abstract The fundamental importance of language and communication in the lives of deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) individuals is reflected in the contents of this volume and acknowledged more broadly in terms of how these domains underpin social and cognitive development as well as learning in educational settings. The communication-focussed interventions described include all aspects of spoken and signed language, face-to-face communication, and literacy skills, and are typically delivered by speech and language therapists and teachers working in multidisciplinary teams with a range of professionals. This edited volume provides information on models of service delivery from different countries, thereby sharing examples of best practice globally; and details communication assessments and interventions in spoken and signed languages for which the evidence base either exists or is emerging. The information will be important to trainee and qualified speech and language therapists, teachers, psychologists, deaf professionals, and also to academics with research interests in language, communication, deafness and communication interventions.
