The six months since the IUBMB Annual Report (August 1998 to July 1999) was circulated have been characterized by: much activity connected with preparations for the 17th Ordinary General Assembly and with the elections for membership of the Executive Committee (EC); by completion of the selection procedures for Travel Fellowships for the IUBMB Congress in Birmingham UK in July 2000; by the work of the Task Force on International Governance: relaunching of one of the IUBMB journals and preparations for relaunching of another; by approval of a variety of sponsorships by the Committee on Education. Symposia and Interest Groups, and Wood‐Whelan Research Fellowships: by approval of a new initiative in the form of IUBMB Jubilee Lecture program; and by selection of the first recipients of the IUBMB Distinguished Service Award.
