Musical Composition and Artistic Expression of Contemporary Cantonese Songs with Ancient Poetry — An Example of the Works of Guangdong Musician Chen Huiquan

Cantonese songs of ancient poems refer to songs of ancient poems sung in Cantonese, which have both the style of Cantonese songs and the characteristics of songs of ancient poems, and their history can be traced back to the last century. Nowadays, Cantonese songs with ancient poems are gradually coming into people’s view and being popularized. This paper takes Chen Huiquan, a Cantonese musician, as the object of study, and through online interviews to learn about his biographical experience and artistic achievements. The study analyzed his creative characteristics, singing art, and the cultural aesthetics of Cantonese songs with ancient poems. The first-hand information related is collated and analyzed for this study to provide more references and theoretical basis for the development of ancient poems and Cantonese songs.
