Simple interlinear winter rapeseed hybrid Gambit bred at V.S. Pustovoit All-Russian Research Insti-tute of Oil Crops

View through CrossRef
A simple interlinear winter rapeseed hybrid Gambit (VN-2028) was developed by crossing lines VN-9 (maternal form) and ORK-13 (paternal form) and using CMS Ogura system. The hybrid Gambit belongs to the group of medium-early varieties and hybrids, is characterized by the uniformity of plants, flowering and maturation, adaptability to harvesting. In a competitive trial of 2022–2023 the yield of the hybrid Gambit exceeded the standard hybrid Debut by 0.22 t/ha, on the oil yield by 0.14 t/ha. By similar indicators Gambit exceeded the standard variety Loris by 1.24 t/ha and by 0.60 t/ha, respectively, and one of the popular foreign hybrids Factor by 0.11 t/ha, both in seed and oil yield. The new hybrid was characterized by high oil content of seeds – 48.3%, exceeding the standards by 0.9–1.4%, respectively, differed by low content of glucosinolates in seeds – 14.9 µmol/g, and had larger seeds. The thousand-seed weight of the new hybrid averaged 5.2 g for 2 years, which is 0.3–0.8 g higher than the standards. The parental components of the hybrid Gambit matched well by the flowering dates. The maternal line VN-9 (No. 1981) was characterized by seed yield and oil content of seeds at the level of the standard variety, low content of glucosinolates in seeds – 13.7 µmol/g. The paternal line ORK-13 had a yield of 3.36 t/ha, seed oil content was 47.9%, and the glucosinolate content in seeds was not more than 15.4 µmol/g.
