Compact dual band fractal patch antenna based on RIS and MUC
View through CrossRef
Abstract
In this paper, a compact Microstrip patch antenna working at two frequencies based on Reactive Impedance Surface (RIS) and Mushroom unit cell (MUC) is proposed. Initially, square patch antenna is designed for 5G frequency band. Then the edges of the beginner antenna are embedded with Koch fractal curves for circular polarization operation (CP). The second band is obtained by loading MUC into the CP antenna. The radiation properties of the reported antenna are inspected and illustrated with both simulated and experimental results in detail. The Return Loss Bandwidth (RLB) at upper resonating frequency band (patch mode band) is 10.1% (3.35–3.71 GHz) and 2% (2.40–2.46 GHz) at lower resonance frequency band (left hand band) respectively. The Axial Ratio Bandwidth (ARB) is 5.17% (3.39–3.57 GHz) at patch mode band. Simulated values obtained from HFSS and measured values are in close agreement.

The Return Loss Bandwidth (RLB) at upper resonating frequency band (patch mode band) is 10.
1% (3.
35–3.
71 GHz) and 2% (2.
40–2.
46 GHz) at lower resonance frequency band (left hand band) respectively.
The Axial Ratio Bandwidth (ARB) is 5.
17% (3.
39–3.
57 GHz) at patch mode band.
Simulated values obtained from HFSS and measured values are in close agreement.
