Charles Nodier: The Romantic Librarian
View through CrossRef
Charles Nodier (1780-1844), famous French writer and librarian, rose
to the acme of his career during his tenure as the director of the
Bibliothèque de l'Arsenal in Paris. Although his name is frequently
associated with the French romantic movement, it is very seldom associated
with library science. Following the path of Nodier's accomplishments
provides ample opportunity for a discussion of his contributions to
the field of library science. In his work of disseminating information,
creating and preserving bibliographic publications, and theorizing about
the importance and arrangement of collected knowledge, Nodier proves
worthy of further investigation and acknowledgment in his role as one
of history's great librarians.
