Նարեկավանքում ընդօրինակված ձեռագրեր/MANUSCRIPTS WRITTEN IN NAREK MONASTERY

This article is about manuscripts written in Narek monastery (Narekavank). There aren't many of them. The earliest of them is the Gospel, written in 1069 (Matenadaran, ms. 10434). It was copied by scribe Hovhannes at the request of archimandrite Anania Varagatsi. The original from which it was copied was believed to have been written by Mesrop Mashtots and belonged to the abbot Anania Narekatsi. On the first page there is an image of a large, equal-armed and blooming cross. Of course, in the 11th century and in the following centuries, manuscripts were copied in the monastery that have not survived to us. In 1420, the monk Stepanos Izit copied the Gospel in Narekavank (Matenadaran, ms. 4826). This manuscript is richly illustrated, but the name of the miniaturist is not written. There is evidence about four manuscripts written in Narekavank in the 15th-16th centuries, are lost now. Two manuscripts are Gospels copied by Stepanos in 1415 and in 1419. The other is The Book of Sermons of Grigor Tatevatsi, copied by Astvatsatur in 1417, and the fourth is the Gospel copied by bishop Grigor in 1574. The last known manuscript, written in the village of Narek, is A Household Doctor written by Karapet Kocharyants in 1905 (Matenadaran, ms 6867). Thus, few manuscripts are known from Narekavank. However, the manuscripts of 1069 and 1420 years testify to the high development of writing and miniature arts in this monastery.
