Listy Seweryna Gałęzowskiego (1801-1878) są ciekawym źródłem wiedzy o życiu codziennym polskich uchodźców politycznych w Paryżu w połowie XIX w. Nadawca listów ukończył studia lekarskie w Wilnie, uczestniczył w powstaniu listopadowym i po jego klęsce musiał uciekać na Zachód. Adresatem listów był Józef Bohdan Zaleski (1802-1886), polsko-ukraiński poeta. Po powstaniu tysiące ludzi opuszczało ojczyste strony w obawie przed represjami. Listy pokazują ich życie publiczne.
