This chapter discusses Ivan Bunin's friendship with Alexander Kuprin. Kuprin was secretive about many things in his personal life despite their long and close friendship. Critics have often compared Kuprin to Kipling, which is ill-chosen as several of Kipling's works reached the heights of genuine genius. Moreover, Kuprin's life changed after coming to Petersburg, entering the literary scene, marrying the daughter of Daydova, and then becoming the owner of God's World before he eventually returned to the USSR. The chapter notes that Bunin immensely supported Kuprin, referencing how he read and reread several of his stories.
