“The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures” is a play by Tony Kushner. Unlike Kushner's other works, “The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide . . .” places a discussion of labor history at the center of this work about Brooklyn, urban development, the fate of social movements, and debates about reform vs. revolutionary strategies of social change. The play is steeped in references to historic social actors, such as Vito Anthony Marcantonio, a Congressional representative and member of the American Labor Party, who was in and out of office from the 1930s to 1950s.
