Tavla

View through Europeana Collections
Playing in blending technology, textile applications, embroidery and painting on a bottom of beige silk. The motif depicts two doves at a barrel surrounded by flower garrisons. The Girlangs are both painted and embroidered. They have stitched and glued leaves with painted details. The flowers are made of thin gauze, probably silk, that was twisted together with petals and attached with cartilage of French knots in the middle of the flower. Centred in the hem of the board, it is written with pen a date and name. The whole board is edged with woven cotton bands sewn firmly with a throwing stitch and folded around the edge of the wooden pans on which the board is tensioned. Through the bands at the back of the boiler house, simple coarse lines are tense zigzag to keep the fabric in place. Several of the wires are loose. Between the fabric and the boiler is a paper. The blackboard is spotted and has some smaller holes in the fabric.
