Zener–Stroh crack, Zener–Hollomon parameter, and other topics

View through CrossRef
Zener’s best known contributions to mechanical metallurgy undoubtedly are his theories and experimental research in the field of anelasticity of metals. He has, in addition to his anelasticity discoveries, made very significant contributions to the understanding of other aspects of mechanical metallurgy. This paper considers his other major contributions to mechanical metallurgy. One of these is the introduction of the Zener–Hollomon parameter. Another is the Zener–Stroh crack, the crack which complements the Griffith crack. (Physical parameters that are symmetric for the Griffith crack are antisymmetric for the Zener–Stroh crack and vice versa.) Our paper primarily is concerned with the Zener–Stroh crack. Some additional results are found for this crack.
